Colton Underwood was born on January 26, 1992, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the United States, to parents Scott Underwood and Donna Underwood. He was raised with his younger brother Connor Underwood who is also a football player.

His dad was a football player and his mom was a volleyball player at Illinois State University. Both he and his father studied at Washington Community High School. He graduated from high school in 2010.

Underwood has also attended Illinois State University where he started his football career following his dad's footsteps. He played football in the university for the Redbirds.

Underwood used to play for the Redbirds at Illinois State University and following his graduation, he joined the San Diego Chargers, now known as Los Angeles Chargers.

On May 10, 2014, Underwood was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Diego Chargers. Later on September 3, 2014, he was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles but just after a few days, he was released from the team and then he returned to Chargers.

From December 1, 2015, to August 29, 2016, Underwood played for the Oakland Raiders.

Colton Underwood joined The Bachelorette season 14 as a contestant to win the heart of Becca Kufrin but was eliminated in the 8th week. Garrett Yrigoyen was the winner of the season.

In August 2018, Underwood was cast in Bachelor in Paradise season 5 where he started dating his fellow contestant Tia Booth. But the two broke up in the 4th week.
