Jonathan Kim aka Jonny Kim is a NASA astronaut known for his work as an American US Navy lieutenant commander, Physician. Kim is the recipient of a silver star medal and Bronze Star with combat ''V''.

Kim was given a silver medal for rescuing multiple injured Iraqi soldiers in the face of enemy fire. As of March 2022, Kim is working for the United States Navy Sea, Air And Land(SEAL), commonly known as Navy Seals, as a lieutenant commander.

Born to Korean-American Parents

Jonny Kim was born on 5 February 1984 in Los Angeles, California, United States. His parents were migrated from South Korea to the United States in the 1980s, and his family opened a liquor store in South Los Angeles after arriving there. Jonny's father and mother's name isn't revealed in public. Similarly, he grew up with his young brother named Jeffrey. His birth sign is Aquarius.

There is no more information about his family. According to social media reports, Kim had become the victim of domestic violence at his father's hand. His family was threatened with a gun, Kim's father was shot by police and died in his attic.

Talking about his primary education, he attended Santa Monica High school. Further, Kim joined the University of San Diego, where he studied Mathematics. Later on, he was graduated from the University of San Diego in 2012 and completed a degree of Doctor of Medicine from Harvard Medical school in 2016. After that, he completed his medical internship in emergency medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and  Brigham and Women's Hospital in 2017.

Jonny Kim's professional career 

Jonny has served as a Navy SEAL, Doctor, and Astronaut. At 16, he decided to join the United States Naval Special Warfare Command. In 2002, he joined the United States Navy and graduated BUD/S class 247. 

Later on, Jonny was assigned to SEAL Team 3 with the rating Special Warefare Operation. After being deployed twice to the Middle East, he completed 100 combat missions as a combat medic, sniper, navigation, and point man.

During his SEAL team, Jonny was also operated with PO2s Marc Alan Lee and Michael A.Monsoor. In 2009, Jonny was accepted for commissioning. After he graduated from the University of San Diego, he left United States Navy and entered the Medical Corps. 

During at Harvard Medical School, Kim met an astronaut physician Scott E.Parazynski. Kim applied for Astronaut candidacy. 0n June 7, 2017, Jonny was selected as one of twelve candidates among over 18,300 applicants. Kim completed his astronaut training in 2020 and was awaiting a flight assignment with the Artemis program. On 9 December 2020, finally, NASA announced that Kim will join with 17 astronauts in training for a 2024 Moon landing. Kim had served as the International Space Station's Increment Leader for Expedition 65 in 2021.
