Irish actress Lara Mcdonnell started her career in acting as a child actor around the age of 7 or 8. But her global recognition today is a credit to her role as Captian Holly Short, in Disney’s 2020 release ‘Artemis Fowl’ alongside lead Ferdia Shaw.
‘Artemis Fowl’, directed by Kenneth Branagh, is adapted from the widely popular series of eight novels written by Eoin Colfer, an Irish author. The film’s breakout star, McDonnell, got her start from the hit Musical, ‘Matilda, the Musical’ on the West End.

It is hard to believe that the young star, currently 17 years of age, has made several appearances in movies like ‘The Delinquent Season’, ‘Walk Invisible: The Bronte Sisters’ and ‘Love Rosie’, her debut movie.
Her extraordinary talent in acting has earned her ardent fans worldwide.
Thanks to her theatre work, movies, and Disney association, her current net -worth is estimated to be around $1 million. Not bad for a 17-year-old actor!
She is currently being managed by The Lisa Richards Agency, UK.
Having been performing in theatre for a year for ‘Matilda, the musical’, the actress said in an interview that her passion and love for both films and theatre is equal even though they are quite different platforms for the expression of creativity.
The young Irish actress loves singing as a hobby. One of McDonnell’s biggest dreams is to perform on Broadway where she could contribute to both music and acting roles.
Being in quarantine at home for so long, the actress has even tried her hands at baking. She shares that baking has helped her ease some of the stress related to the covid situation.
The actress self-admittedly loves the idea of over-preparing. For her role in ‘Artemis Fowl’ alone she re-read the entire series of 8 novels, twice! She is known to have auditioned for ‘Matilda’ for 4 months and for Holly Short you wonder? A good 9 months of the casting process.
Her determination and flair for acting were appreciated much by the legendary Judy Dench on the film sets. This led the director Kenneth Branagh to invite her on his subsequent next, ‘Death on the Nile’ to gain more work experience.
There she was exposed to different aspects of film-making; her dream come true moment as she was always interested in knowing the entire filmmaking process. In 2017, she got the same chance again in the actor/director’s next, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’.
