After that, Pete began working as a meteorologist for four years at WFTV, the ABC affiliate in Orlando, Florida. Similarly, he joined WCPO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Cincinnati, Ohio as the chief meteorologist from 1996 to 2005. In June 2005, he switched to WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas, and currently has been serving there. 

During his work at WFAA, he has won 18 Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Weather Anchor", "Outstanding Weathercast", "Outstanding Host of a News Special", and "Outstanding Host of Special Event Coverage - Big D NYE". Furthermore, William has both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association's seals of approval.
