Derek Chauvin: Who is Derek Chauvin?

Derek Chauvin was a former American police officer who had charges with the murder of George Floyd.

Derek Chauvin is an anti-racist American, and due to his racist behavior, an innocent man was killed. He was the first white Minnesotan police officer to be convicted of murdering a black person.

Born in the United States

On March 19, 1976, Derek Chauvin was born in Oakdale, Minnesota, United States. Chauvin belongs to a white American family. American parents raised him. 

Derek was born to his father, Robert MichaelChauvin and his mother, CarolynRunge. When he was seven years old, his parents separated via divorce. He hasn't revealed about his siblings.

Talking about his educational background, Derek Chauvin attended Park High School. Later on, he joined Dakota County Technical College, where he gained a degree in quantity food processing. 

 For further study, Chauvin went to Inver Hills Community College and Metropolitan State University for further study He completed his graduation with a bachelor's degree in law enforcement.

 Derek's Career as a Police Officer

Derek joined the Minneapolis Police Department in 2001. Previously, Derek worked as a server at McDonald's and south metro buffet restaurant before joining the police department. He has also served in the US Army as a Military police officer from 1996 to 2000. Chauvin was served the Minneapolis Police Department for 19 years until he was fired after George Floyd's death.

Jailed for Murder of George Floyd

In 2001, Chauvin joined Minneapolis Police Department. He received a commendation medal in 2008 and 2009. Ironically this man once received a medal for bravery in 2006.

He was known worldwide after involving in the murder case of George Floyd. Chauvin later was sentenced to jail for involuntary murder for pressing his knee against Floyd's neck for over nine minutes.

 Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said that Derek Chauvin had been trained in the dangers of positional asphyxiation and characterized Floyd's death as murder. Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison. Later on, he was released on October 7 after posting a $1 million bond. 

The movement "BLACK LIVES MATTER" started after the murder of George Floyd. Geroge's murder led to worldwide protests against police brutality, police racism, and lack of police accountability.

 Similarly, Derek was fired and charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

Talking about his career, Floyd had worked as a truck driver and bouncer. He lost his job as a truck driver in 2020. Later on, George also served as a security guard during the COVID-19 pandemic.

George was in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend, Courteney Ross. In 2020, the couple was separated from each other. Later on, they stayed together.

According to a Wikipedia source, the city of Minneapolis settled a wrongful death lawsuit with George's family for $27 million. Several involved were held on June 4, 2020, as a memorial service for Floyd. 

Derek Chauvin's personal life

Derek was married to Kellie Chauvin in 2010. Kellie is a Hmong American radiologist, beauty queen and  real estate agent.  Kellie is kown as the former wife of police officer Derek Chauvin. She was a married woman previously.

 According to sources she has  had two children from her first marriage, whose names are not known. Derek and Kelle didn't have any kids together.

Kellie got divorced from Derek after ten years of marriage. Currently, Derek is leading his single life.
